Interview with Scythe By: Blissfulviolet
|
Blissfulviolet: I noticed that the original Demontuary lineup has been working together since
last January. How has that been going?
Scythe: We reformed Demontuary with all the original members back in January of 06 after a
three year hiatus, it has been going well. 2006 was a very good year for our return to the
scene, there is a lot of new bands and fans here in Texas that were not here before. The
Texas scene has really grown a lot.
Blissfulviolet: Has the band been working
on any new material, a new album possibly?
Scythe: Yes, a new album is in the works,
we have been very busy writing new
material, we should have a new full length
album recorded and ready for release by
mid summer. We will be debuting a few of
our new songs at the Demonic Gathering.
Blissfulviolet: Cool...so is the band
looking forward to that show?
Scythe: Absolutely, we always look forward to playing live, especially with all the great bands
that are on the line up for this show.
Blissfulviolet: What would you consider to be some of Demontuarys influences?
Scythe: We are heavily influenced by mostly late 80's and early 90's bands, like Possessed,
Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate, Watch Tower, Venom, Destruction, just to name a few, we also
draw alot of influences from horror movies.
Blissfulviolet: Has the band set any goals for the rest of 2007, that you wish to accomplish?
Scythe: Our main goal right now is to finish our new album, after that we are planning to do
some touring through out the US, we really want to build up our fan base, we want to play as
many live shows as possible, besides we really like making peoples ears bleed.
Blissfulviolet: What inspired you to create
Demontuary...What’s your vision of this band?
Scythe: The thing that inspired me the most
to form this band was my love for metal, and my
love for playing the guitar, growing up in Austin
also inspired me. I started going to local metal
shows at the Ritz when I was 13, I saw bands
like Watch Tower, Militia, King Diamond,
Juggernaut, Omen, Syrus, SA Slayer. After
seeing those bands, that's when I decided to
form a band. It just took me a while,
Demontuary formed in January of 97. We
were originally known as Of the Fallen, we changed our name for various reasons. Our vision
for this band is just to keep on writing the music that we love and to keep on having fun with it,
the day we stop having fun with our music is the day we will call it quits.
Blissfulviolet: So how long have you been a guitar player?
Scythe: Well, this is going to make me sound really old but so what, oh about 22 years, since
I was 13.
Blissfulviolet: Do you work on any other projects other then Demontuary?
Scythe: Right now Demontuary is my only band, I was in another project called Witches Mark,
with my metal commrads Robert Williams,(ex Of the Fallen drummer)and Micheal Lance,
vocals, he is also the singer for Ancient Cross and Reverend, but right now I am only focusing
on Demontuary, but keep an eye out for Witches Mark, they will have an album out soon.
Blissfulviolet: What would you consider to
be one of Demontuarys greatest moments?
Scythe: Probably when we played the
Milwaukee Metal fest in 2000,we played to at
least 2000 metal heads, it was a great time.
Also when we played Nuevo Laredo in 2003.
Blissfulviolet: Pretty cool. Hey thanks for
the interview. Any final comments?
Scythe: Thanks for the interview, keep up
the great work, look for our new album this
summer, come see us in San Antonio at the
Demonic Gathering, hail Satan and hail Texas metal!!
Demontuary of Austin, Texas continues to create awesome
black/death metal, that will make your ears fucking bleed...
Thanks to Scythe for giving me more insight on Demontury
and what to expect from this great band in the near future.
