Macbre Live Review
Milwaukee Metal Fest 19

Never would I have thought of witnessing the legendary Murder Metal band Macabre perform
live.  Their performance was the entire highlight of this year’s Milwaukee Metalfest.  I’m sure by
now you have read or heard the news about the fest being a total disaster. Yes it was, and you
can read about it in my
editorial of the event.  What was not even close to being disastrous
was Macabre’s performance, which by the way was killer.
Anticipation was fucking killing me.  Corporate Death calmly tuned his guitar making some final
adjustments, drummer Dennis the Menace rushed to setup his cymbals; while Nefarious
chatted with an anxious fan from the crowd.  Anticipation was definitely killing me.  I kept
running all the different possibilities in my head of what they just might open up with.  Suddenly
a faint but sharp sound echoed and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
ZooodiiiaK…Corporate Death's insane twisted voice repeated Zodiak…Yes it was Zodiak,
Macabre’s  metal tribute to the one and only Zodiac Killer.  The intro sounded wicked and
nearly gave me goose bumps.  I was impressed.  I’ve heard Macabre albums before, and now I
can honestly say, you haven’t heard the real Macabre unless you see them live.
The annexed warehouse like room where Macabre performed was filled with insane, screaming
moshing fans.  At one point the crowd reminded me of elementary school children gathered
around their teacher for story time... (The crowd gathered round the stage as Corporate Death
dished out the background story of their favorite Serial Killer).  It was an intense and fun
performance that I was glad to have witnessed.  Some other Macabre classics performed that
night were:
You’re Dying To Be With Me, Hitch Hiker, Scrub A Dub Dub, Vampire Of
Dusseldorf
and Albert Was Worse Than Any Fish In The Sea… to name a few.
After their performance, the guys of Macabre mingled and drank a few beers with their fans
and even checked out the remaining bands on the bill.  I was later told that Macabre also
performed day 2 of the festival and did a complete acoustic set, something that they never do.
I missed that…fuck!!!
