Interview with Necrol By: Blissfulviolet

Blissfulviolet: Greetings…How’s it
going?
Necrol: Hails! Things are going well.
Blissfulviolet: In less then 3 weeks
Secrets She kept will invade Texas. Is the
band ready to hit the road? Will this be
the bands first Texas performance?
Necrol: We just got back from an east
coast tour about 2 weeks ago. We were
out for 2 weeks. I think the little gap
between travel was a good break, but
yes, we're ready to get back on the road.
And no, this will not be the bands first
performance in TX. We were there last
Sept. for four dates. Two of which were
cancelled, so we ended up only doing Laredo and Houston.
Blissfulviolet: How would you describe the bands sound and what shall we expect at a live
Secrets She Kept show?
Necrol: I like to think of the bands sound as "heavy black metal". You could say "black/death"
but it leans far more towards black. Onstage we're very animated. Not standing in one place
for the entire performance like a lump. And depending on the crowd, SSK shows can get pretty
wild. We've had bleeding fans on more than one occassion...
Blissfulviolet: Secrets She Kept is from
Gainesville, Florida. What’s the metal scene like
there? How does the scene perceive black metal?
Necrol: Well, there is absolutely no scene here in
Gainesville. A lot of black metallers claim there is
"no scene" where they are. But here there is no
exaggerations. We never play around here. Theres
really no point at all. And the people that do know of
bm have a really skewed vision of it. I've heard
some people around here refer to the band HIM as
black metal. pretty pathetic.
Blissfulviolet: What would you say influences the
bands lyrics and music?
Necrol: Well, SSK seems to be ever-changing,
musically. The same things that influenced the
"Requiems..." cd arent the same things that
influence the band now. The last cd portrayed a
dark point in the bands timeline. Pretty depressive
and, at times, suicidal. Something that isn't present
in the band now at all. I guess the bands surroundings are its influence.
Blissfulviolet: When Secrets She Kept first originated it was a one man project. How did that
go? From what I understand, you self produced, wrote all the music and lyrics to "Requiems to
Midnight, Woe.”
Necrol: Yea, it was a one man thing. And I did self produce and write (and perform)
everything on the release. I honestly dont mind doing everything myself. That way I know it will
get done right. But I definately dont like the idea of a "one man band" anymore. There are far
too many of them. Plus I've always wanted to play live. So I made it a point to put a full band
together. And things are working out great. The next cd, however, will continue to be written all
by me. But the full band will be recording it. So a new "sound" will be introduced on the next
release. In more than one way.
Blissfulviolet: What inspires what
you do today as a musician?
Necrol: As a musician, its the
same thing its always been. I love to
create heavy ass music. And I love
what black metal stands for and its
ideals. They're very appealing to
me. I enjoy creating music that
makes me happy. And it just so
happens that it gets released.
Blissfulviolet: Is the band working
on any new material?
Necrol: Yes, there is new SSK stuff in the works. Its a long and frustrating process to me,
writing songs. Because I will not release something that I deem to be crap. I would like to,
however, having a new release ready to go by the end of the year. Maybe early next.
Blissfulviolet: Where would you like to see Secrets She Kept headed?
Necrol: I want world domination. Hah. Unlike a lot of black metal bands, I would like SSK to be
able to be my full time job. However, Im not "in it for the money". I make music to make me
happy. Me and only me. But since that music seems to have been showing a great deal of
potential for far bigger things... Why not take it? And that's what I will do.
Blissfulviolet: If you had to describe the band using one word, what would it be?
Necrol: Chaos.
Blissfulviolet: Any final comments?
Necrol: Come out to the fucking shows!
