When I first let the devilish sounds of this album spill from my speakers, I
was sitting in my back porch. Within seconds all my plants began to wither
and die, then two nuns across the street started spiting and beating the shit
out of each other. Do I have a message for the members of “Blood Freak”?
Yes, you fuckers owe me a new rose bush, the wife is pissed!
This album takes me back to the days when things were simple and Rob
Zombie still made great music rather then altered versions of “A Texas
Chainsaw Massacre.” When you see the artwork for this album it is easy to
see the “White Zombie” influence. The drawings are grotesque, gore filled
images of torture and monsters, a lot like my family photo album. With
creative song titles like, “Cleavage Cleaver,” “Body by Death,” and “Don’t
metal with Satan,” the horror style theme lives on through the entire album
in a way White Zombie never covered.
Much in the tradition of death metal, the guitar rhythms are fast, thick and
heavy as shit. Crazy guitar antics fly at you from all angles not only keeping
you on your toes, but making this album fun to listen to. The break downs
are rhythmic and keep with the dark nature of the music as the guitar
suddenly breaks out in random acts of violence. The guitar solos are
classic death metal, violent and cutting straight to the bone
When it comes to vocals, well I’ll say this. I’m slap stick happy that the lyrics
were included. The leads are thrashing and heart pounding, I listened to
this album six times and I still don’t think I understand all the words. I mean
there is something about killing my family and cutting kittens in half, but I
could be mistaking that with the subliminal messages I get from church.
Have you ever heard these albums where the drummer doesn’t seem to
have any real talent rather then hitting the drums as hard and as fast as
humanly possible just to keep up with the guitarist? Yeah, I hate it too, but it
seems to be a must for the majority of death metal. However, the beats in
this album are refreshingly not the average brain dead beats you’ve come
to love when it comes toe the devil’s music. Sure, they keep in the tradition
of death metal, but the beats are creative and seem to have a mind of their
own.
The whole album is great, but if you really want to feel the evil run you over,
then here are some of my personal recommendations. Tracks 3, “Go For
the Grossout,” 5, “Body by Death,” 8 “Aerobicide” and track 12,
“Roadkillers.” However, the top of my list is gonna be Track 9, “Don’t Metal
with Satan.”
If gore could be sexy then this is it boys and girls. This is the album that
Leather Face and Hannibal Lector listen to when they touch each other,
and I guarantee that it will make you want to do the same. “The music tells
me to kill.”
Open your heart and let out the dark, Mr. VvvvvV Darkling
