2008 - Candlelight Records USA Review by: Blissfulviolet
Retaining possibly the most extreme role of developing Norway’s early iconic black metal scene, stands the one-man band Burzum. Until now, with the release of ‘Anthology,’ Burzum’s music could only be obtained in the US by import; thus fans had no choice but to pay a due of high prices.
‘Anthology’ features tracks spanning Burzum’s entire 10 + career. Unfortunately this release does not come close to ‘highlighting’ what true Burzum fans would consider to be the worthy, essential Burzum. For a compilation titled ‘Anthology,’ only 8 tracks made the final cut. Tracks such as ‘My Journey to the Stars,’ and ‘Key to the Gate’ are some of the many songs that were not even included.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s great that Candlelight Records USA is finally offering Burzum material domestically, but honestly, this release is perfectly aimed for those who are just starting to get their feet wet with Burzum or possibly black metal in general. It would have been grand to just to re-release the original cds in the US, but who knows what the circumstances are. Nevertheless, ‘Anthology’ also includes a bonus video and awesome cover to seal the deal.
