Blissfulviolet- So how's it going? Catholicon's newest release, TREATISE ON THE ABYSS has just
been released a few days ago. How do you feel?
I.N.R.I.- Pretty good. The album came out pretty good and looks the best out of any of our albums. But
then since we feel this to be our strongest work yet, we put as much into it as we could. So we are for
the most part pleased with the final product. Of course there are a few things I would change that didn't
come out just the way I would have liked them but maybe if we repress the album we can do that then.
Blissfulviolet- What can you tell me about this particular release? Describe the sound.
I.N.R.I.- By far our best sounding recording ever. We did it at Noise Farm in Paige, Texas with Tim
Bartlett and had a great time. Really got a great sound out there and will hopefully continue to do so. He
is easy as hell to work with and does a great job. We tracked it live so the drums, guitars and vocals
were done at the same time so we could capture the live and frantic raw sound. Of course more guitar
tracks were recorded and extra percussion was thrown in spots as were some backing vocals. But for
the most part it was all live and is meant to be listened to in its entirety.
Blissfulviolet- Is there a concept behind the album or
albums title?
I.N.R.I.- Not a concept this time like the last album.
Although this album is still an all out assault on the
church and it's feeble minded sheep. The title basically
means The Law of Hell.
Blissfulviolet- How did the recording process go?
I.N.R.I.- As I said before it was extremely relaxed and
we had a great time working with Tim over at Noise
Farm. We finished the tracking and then went back two
times to work on the mix and then it went to James
Murphy for the mastering.
Blissfulviolet- Do you have a favorite track off the
new album? If so which one and why?
I.N.R.I.- Honestly, I like them all but if I had to pick it
would be Immaculate Deception I guess. Mainly
because that is a song Blasphyre and I have been wanting to do. I believe since around the time of the
first album and we finally have and I believe it turned out better then it ever could have especially in the
early days. Musically it goes all over the place and visits every territory Catholicon delves into, and
lyrically it says everything one would need to hear to know what we are about and where we stand and
are coming from.
Blissfulviolet- I just read that TREATISE ON THE ABYSS will also have a limited edition as well. What's
included in the limited edition version compared to the regular release? Where can we purchase this cd?
I.N.R.I.- Well, we have a limited number of 200 wooden boxes that the cd's slip into. They have the logo
silk screened on each side of the box and believe me people have never seen shit like them before!!!
The first 100 will come with a signed poster as well as stickers. The rest will just get the box and album
and stickers if we aren't out. All our albums are available for purchase from us either online, at shows or
people can just send us there order through the mail. We just ask that everyone send us an email first
to check on availability and to secure your order before sending any type of payment. We don't want
anyone screaming rip off!!! We can be contacted at www.fuckyourgod.com
Blissfulviolet- You guys are also getting ready to tour soon. Is the band psyched? How do you feel
about the upcoming Texas dates?
I.N.R.I.- Indeed!!! Texas is honestly the scene where I think we belong. We always seem to get a warm
response there and there are so many killer bands and actual fans there it's insane. Louisiana is full of
incestuous shit bands that all play the same song and sleep in the same bed. People may say there is a
metal scene here but they are mistaken. The scene for extreme metal in Louisiana is dead. The scene
that does exist here is shit and we have nothing to do with it. There are a handful of real bands playing
original shit but they get no recognition because they don't have some so called rock star in their band
and actually play originals instead of copying everyone else. We used to have a great scene for metal
here but that time has passed and the people that think it still exists are either lying to themselves or
have no idea what metal is. Southern rock is not metal and never will be.
Blissfulviolet- What can one expect
at a live Catholicon show?
I.N.R.I.- Nothing fancy. We don't do
any theatrics at all as we don't deem it
necessary. We are a black/death metal
band regardless of those more
opinionated, obsessed with image in the
scene may think or say. We have no
problems with the bands that use such
things to get there point across or to
get them in the right mind set or
whatever, but we are from a time when
metal was metal and the only thing that
mattered was the music and that is how
we still think. We don't give a fuck what
any band looks like as long as the
music is good, that is all that matters to
us. As for what you can expect is 3 or 4 ugly bastards playing a noisy as hell bastardized mix of twisted
black/death metal.
Blissfulviolet- Tell me about the bands name, I'm sure you've encountered some people that think the
band embraces the Catholic religion.
I.N.R.I.- Indeed. We have heard just about every asinine remark one can think of regarding the bands
name from the uneducated. Especially from those childish scenesters that populate Blabbermouth. But
no worries, those are fools that we wouldn't ever want as fans of the band in the first place. Catholicon in
its easiest description means universal cure or remedy so it's basically a panacea. It had nothing to do
with the Catholic church originally as the word actually predates them. They did however eventually use
the word to basically make it sound like they were the one true faith and have since used it to describe
other religious shit. But the word it self which is hard to find in dictionaries these days means - universal
cure or cure all.
Blissfulviolet- Where would you like to see the band headed? (Any goals set that you would like the
band to accomplish?)
I.N.R.I.- Hopefully being able to get our shit spread across the globe and be able to do shows all over
the place. Also just to keep releasing material that we feel continues to spread our message and retains
the main elements of Catholicon without sounding stagnant.
Blissfulviolet- What would you consider to be one of Catholicon's greatest moments?
I.N.R.I.- Besides doing what we want to do regardless of what others think. It would have to be sticking
to our guns and out lasting all the generic shit talking fucks in our local scene.
Blissfulviolet- Any final comments?
I.N.R.I.- Thanks for the support and for all those into the death and black metal scene for the actual
music and message then by all means check us out!!! Hopefully we will keep coming over to Texas and
doing more and more shows there since people there actually appreciate what we do!!! Hail Satanic
Victory!!!!
Thanks for the interview

Catholicon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana have just released their
latest album TREATISE ON THE ABYSS. Don't expect some Southern
metal oriented sound from these guys. Catholicon continues to
spread blasphemous black/death metal with no strings attached.
