When I first saw the artwork for this album I said to myself, “Hey, isn’t that
the skull from the Killswitch Engage album? I think I have that t-shirt.”
Once I had the CD in my player, I thought my old friend from down under
had reached up and turned my stereo on “ALL FUCKED” mode. Then I
realized that it was not the work of the Devil’s minions at all, but some sort
of anti-theft system in place making it very difficult to play songs on random
programming.  The tracks on this album run in 30 second intervals, so by
the time you actually get to song #2 you are on track 5, which is clearly
defined when you read the track list.
The rhythms in this album are interesting to say the least.  It’s a clever
blend of classic punk rock, and heavy metal.  It’s like taking a classic car
and making it into a modern monster that scares all the other kids when
they drop you off at school in it.  This album starts strong and fast, and it
carries you all the way through with out hardly ever stopping to take a
breath.  If you’re the kind of person who would shoot your mother for a
good thrashing, and you hate the government, then you need to bang your
head to this shit, it’s gonna be worth the 3 A.M search for night time pain
relievers.
The drums are in no way basic and keep the songs fresh.  A prime example
would be “Funeral Line," track 46/song 8, but not to be narrowed down, the
beats are intense through the entire album.  The vocals are hard and raw
and the group pitches in their own vocals as back up which keeps it punk,
yet not.  The sound is clean and not so rough around the edges (unlike
punk).  If I had to describe this alum in two words they would be, “Organized
Chaos.' If I had to use just one word I would probably say “Helmet.”
As intense as this album starts, to watch “Coliseum” play live all the way
through would leave you asking questions like, “Where do these guys get
their cocaine?” Like every album you’ve ever bought for just one song, this
album has a few that are better then others.  It opens with “No Benefit,”
which I wasn’t very impressed with, but once I got into track 11/song 3 “The
Fate of Men,” I actually found myself tapping my foot along for the ride.
Don’t listen to one song and let that decide it for you, but if you must only
listen to only one then I recommend one of these: trck34/sng6 “Shake if
Off,” trck46/sng8 “Funeral Line,” trck67/sng11 “Fall of the Pigs,” or
trck78/sng12 “Believer.”  All of these songs stand out from the others, but
by far my favorite one was the lat song on the album, which was “The
Burden,” a strong ending to a chaotic symphony of anti-government fun for
the whole family.
Open your heart and let out the dark, Mr. VvvvvV Darkling.
