Paula: Hey Aantar! Thanks for taking time to do this interview with me!
Aantar: No problem it an honor! Thanks for having me!
Paula: Can you tell me what year did Diabolic begin and give us a brief history of how you guys started the band?
Aantar: I formed Diabolic back in 1996. I then moved to Tampa Florida, Death Metal capital of the world!!! We had a band house and we wrote the demo ‘City of the dead’ and our 1st 3 albums ‘Supreme Evil,’ ‘Subterrenal Magnitude’
Paula: You started off well with your 1996 -1997 demos, so what was happening with the band at that time?
Aantar: We just wanted to do everything!!! Played Tampa, New York, Los Angles, the 1st then Milwaukee Metal fest and signed a deal with Conquest Music. We loved to travel and were determined to be the best we could be. We never said we couldn't do anything. Nothing could stop us. We were destined to reign Supreme!!! The underground Death metal supporters are the ones who kept us motivated! Hails to them!!!!
Paula: You also left for a while...
Aantar: Between 2004 and 2006 I left Diabolic to record the ‘Unholy Ghost’ cd ( www.myspace. com/unholyghost ) "Torrential Reign" for Century Media Records and my project band Blastmasters. I’ m hoping to release Blastmasters www.myspace.com/blastmasters "Twisted Metal" through Deathgasm soon because it was never officially released.
Paula: There is a big gap from 1999 to 2007. Can you tell us what was happening with the band members during those years?
Aantar: We had to balance the band between touring, writing new songs, work and our girlfriends. Some of the guys quit or were replaced. Between 1997 and 2004 we toured with Death Metal Gods: Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Krisin and Dimmu Borgir- just to name a few.
Paula: Glad to see you guys come back, with all but one original member! What led to you guys to getting the band back together?
Aantar: I wanted to play the old songs and write new ones. I went to Paul's house and he said he would do it. Then Kelly called and said he wanted to play again. Our last show was in Los Angles at the ‘Bestial Legion Fest’ with Death Metal Gods Possessed!!!
Paula: You’re signed to Deathgasm Records (congrats on that) and you have a new album out soon called "Chaos in Hell" (which can be pre-ordered right now!) Who does most of the song writing and what can you say about the new album compared to previous Diabolic releases?
Aantar: Over the years it’s been a team effort to make the songs better. I write most of the music and Paul writes most of the lyrics. Deathgasm records have taken 2 Diabolic ep's and combined them into 1 cd; which also includes the 1st official Diabolic video ‘Engulf the Enchantress.’ Diabolic- Possessed By Death : 2006 and "Chaos in Hell" 2007 were recorded at DOW studio's and produced by Juan "Punchy" Gonzalez (Terrorizer/Morbid Angel).
Paula: Where will your album be distributed and where can our readers get a copy?
Aantar: www.deathgasm.com
Paula: Looks like a great year ahead for Diabolic! You have many upcoming metalfests. I will be one of the promoters promoting the Michigan Extreme Metalfest 2! I am excited to take part in this fest! Who are some of the headlining bands that you will be performing with this year?
Aantar: Other notable bands are Incantation, Nocturnal Fear, Flesh for the Beast and Project Apocalypse.
Paula: What can we expect from Diabolic late 2008 and early 2009?
Aantar: We need to get back to the studio and record a new album. Kelly and I are writing new songs and Paul already has all the lyrics for the next album complete.
Paula: Hope to see you in Georgia, any chance of that happening? Lol
Aantar: Sure why not! We loved playing the Masquerade!!!
Paula: 10 years later, looking back can you tell us how the death metal scene has changed? For better or worse?
Aantar: It just keeps getting better everyday!!!
Paula: Are there lots more death metal fans in your opinion these days?
Aantar: Yes I think so, thanks to Myspace!
Paula: How are ticket sales now compared to then?
Aantar: Same as it ever was!
Paula: Is there any new news about you or the other band members that our readers would want to know about?
Aantar: Here are a few show dates: June 28th at The Oasis, South Carolina
