Die Verbannten Kinder Evas is back! Richard Lederer (Protector) from the black metal
band Summoning along with the new operatic angelic voiced, Christina Kroustali bring
forth the darkest tranquill DVKE release to date, "Dusk and Void Became Alive." I was
fortunate to get in touch with Christina Kroustali, who was more than happy to offer
Beyond the Dark Horizon insight on the new album and her endeavors.
Blissfulviolet: Greetings Christina thanks for taking the
time to answer my questions. Tell me about yourself.
What are your interests? What inspired you to become a
singer?
Christina Kroustali: I originate from Thessaloniki, Greece
but I'm studying food engineering in Athens. My time is
limited, but when I have some spare I like to travel, read
books, spend time with my boyfriend, listen to music,
compose and practice, watch movies.
At an early age, I came across Therion's album "Theli.”
The distinct quality of the female vocals challenged me
into singing. I then joined a Greek choir and the maestro
encouraged me even more. It was then when I first
realized what my goal was to work hard to be a great
singer.

Christina Kroustali: Surely there are some singers of the genre that I admire…Vibeke Stene,
she's a steady value, Laurie Ann Haus, for her uniqueness, Syrrah from Qntal and of course
the lovely friend Melissa Ferlaak (ex-Aesma Daeva) from Visions of Atlantis, who's also a very
good friend of mine.
But apart from them there are countless classical singers that I admire and respect, one of
which is Emma Kirkby. I wouldn't say that they have influenced the way that I sing, rather than
give me a push to seek my unique style and expression.
Blissfulviolet: Die Verbannten Kinder Evas has been around for quite sometime; how did
collaborating with Richard Lederer (Protector) come about? And how has it been working with
him so far?

Christina Kroustali: I met Richard through a common
acquaintance we had through the internet, I
approached him as a fan and it was the same
moment he searched for a new singer(after the girl
from Turkey gave it up).Sent him some samples of my
voice, and that was it.:) Our cooperation has been
excellent. Very professional and helpful, working next
to such a great musician and person made me learn
many things.
Blissfulviolet: Dusk and Void Became Alive has just
recently been released overseas, How has the album
been perceived so far? How did the recording
process go?
Christina Kroustali: Although it is very early to judge
that, the response we got from people and magazines
was great. Many of them are saying that it's probably
the best album of DVKE. Time will tell... :)
Blissfulviolet: How would you describe the albums
sound and vocals?
Christina Kroustali: The album's sound combines the dark atmosphere of the previous one "In
Darkness Let Me Dwell" with the polyphony of "Come Heavy Sleep", creating something unique.
The female vocals are prevailing, since about 70% of the vocal lines are sung by me. Also
interesting are the moments where both me and Richard are singing together .
Blissfulviolet: Are there any other plans or side projects that you’re currently working on
besides Die Verbannten Kinder Evas?
Christina Kroustali: I'm currently working on my own project, and in the near future as a guest
vocalist on some bands, but every other serious offer will be discussed.
Blissfulviolet: Thanks once again Christina. You have a wonderful voice and I’m sure the world
will be hearing more of it in the future. I wish you best of luck with Die Verbannten Kinder Evas
and any other endeavors you wish to pursue.
Christina Kroustali: Thank you too for the interview, wish you all the best!
