Interview with Sam Korvus By: Blissfulviolet
|
Blissfulviolet: Greetings…How are you and things in the United Kingdom?
Sam Korvus: Very good thank you
Blissfulviolet: Tell me about the history of Korvus. From what I understand Korvus is a solo project?
Sam: Korvus began as a solo project in 2004, and I was later joined by Adam Pravus (bass) and Sam Curtis
(drums) before recording the first demo CD 'Dark Desires'. After a few months of rehearsing and writing new
material we recorded a second demo called 'The Kingdom of the Raven', which instantly began to attract a lot of
attention, causing the fan base to increase rapidly. In 2006 we decided that Korvus would return to a solo project
as it was originally intended. This allows me to have a lot more freedom with writing and recording my music, and
means I am able to channel my creativity without having to compromise in any way.
Blissfulviolet: Korvus has just finished recording the debut album, 'In the Name of Lucifer'. How did the
recording process go? And what can you tell me about this particular release?
Sam: The recording process was enjoyable, but very challenging at the same time. All of the tracks were written,
performed, recorded, mixed and mastered by myself, which certainly tested my abilities as a musician. As you can
imagine, it was a long process and took a lot of hard work and dedication. I have gained a lot of experience from
recording this album, and I am already making plans for the next! The album will be released independently
through my own label Korvus Productions, and will be distributed by various labels and online stores.
Blissfulviolet: Describe the albums sound?
Sam: Extremely dark and melodic black metal. The album
has fairly modern sounding production, but without losing any
of the traditional black metal elements.
Blissfulviolet: What types of lyrical concepts are present in
this recording?
Sam: The main lyrical themes of the album are Satanism and
Vampirism. Most of the lyrics are influenced by my Satanic
beliefs and views on Christian indoctrination. I am also a huge
fan of gothic literature such as Bram Stokers 'Dracula' and
various Anne Rice novels, which have given me a lot of
musical and lyrical inspiration.
Blissfulviolet: What did you enjoy most about recording this
album?
Sam: The most enjoyable part of the recording process was
probably the vocals. It is an excellent outlet of energy and
emotion. I also enjoy the mixing stage, being able to bring the
music to life and make it sound exactly as I want it to.
Blissfulviolet: Do you plan on having live session members
for a possible tour after the album is released?
Sam: The Korvus live lineup is confirmed, and there are three other members who play at every show. We
recently played a gig with Akercocke and Hecate Enthroned which went very well, and we had a great response.
We will be booking more shows as soon as the album is released.
Blissfulviolet: A while back Korvus helped as support for the Theatres des Vampires and Draconian Order UK
tour. How did that go? Any highlights you wish to comment on?
Sam: It was a great experience for all of us, especially as it was only a year after we recorded the first demo CD.
The tour generally consisted of one disaster after another, and is now funny to look back on, but we had a great
response from every audience we played to. The main highlight of the tour was playing at The Underworld in
London, where we were interviewed by Redemption TV, and our performance was filmed. It has been shown on
many occasions and introduced Korvus to a lot of new fans.
Blissfulviolet: Where would you like to see Korvus headed?
Sam: So far everything has gone to plan, and things are looking better for Korvus every day. I will continue to
dedicate my life to my music, so who knows what will happen?
Blissfulviolet: Any final comments?
Sam: Check out www.myspace.com/Korvus for more information and tracks from the forthcoming debut album
'In the Name of Lucifer'!
