Interview with Morfeus
By: Blissfulviolet
Morfeus:  Horses... Hey!! (Referring to my
default msn instant messenger pic).
Blissfulviolet:  Hey I just got online.  I need to
change that default pic lol.
Morfeus:  Hehehe... Don’t worry about it.
Blissfulviolet:  Ok that’s better.  (Changed it to
a yellow rubber duckie).
Morfeus:  Haha... Actually I have a few of those
yellow ducklings…
Blissfulviolet:  Lol, So how are you and things
in Norway?
Morfeus:  Well, I'm just fine, I don't think there's
anything different than what it use to be, autumn is coming, it's getting colder and darker, best
time of the year if you ask me.. It's already pretty cold here compared to the normal.. But if you
are thinking about things in Norway as in the metal scene…Well, I couldn't really answer you. I
don't pay much attention to anything here when it comes to metal. There are quite a few
people that I know of course, and I like it very much when we meet, but it's not like I'm keeping
track of anything that's going on, if you get me.
Blissfulviolet:  I get ya… Same here in Texas except it's freaking hot all the time.
Morfeus:  Hehe, yeah, I guess it is a lot hotter there than what it is here. More cattle and
cowboys too I guess…
Blissfulviolet:  So are you ready for the release of Legacy of Evil?
Morfeus:  I don't know.  I never feel ready for releases, but there's no way back now...
Blissfulviolet:  True…
Morfeus:  No, I think we have finished a pretty strong album this time, but I'm the kinda guy
who can never stop tinkering…You know, maybe turn that knob a little more.. This guitar
should be a little louder or lower or whatever… I'm never gonna be satisfied I think, and
actually I don't WANT to be satisfied either, because if I'm 100% happy with the album, then
where should I go.. Be happy, just not entirely happy is my motto…
B;issfulviolet:  Well I'm sure the new album is going to be great, I heard the track
‘Lycanthropic Tales’ and it sounds killer...So you designed the cover to this album as well?
Morfeus:  Yes, I did.. I have done all the LA covers, and we didn't really feel that it was
something that needed to change… I think it turned out quite ok too... I'm of course in the
exact same spot when it comes to visual stuff, I can never really stop… I'm mostly looking
forward to the vinyl tho, bigger format, can see more details. There is always some hidden stuff
in the LA covers, but on the cds you can't really see them.
Blissfulviolet:  Vinyl kicks ass I have a huge collection of records but some people seem to
not to appreciate them as much anymore.  So what can you tell me about the new album, is it a
concept album?
Morfeus:  Yes, vinyl is something that most people don't even think about anymore. My
collection ain't that big, but there are a few classics in there.  hehe..  It's not a concept album
at all.  We never did a concept album, I guess you could say that the only concept behind it is
making Limbonic Art music.  No story and no special plan about it.
Blissfulviolet:  Awesome...So if you don't mind me asking what inspired Limbonic Art to
reunite?
Morfeus:  Actually it was a kinda developing process.  We hadn't had much contact at all the
past years, but we got more and more in touch in 2006... So after a while we figured we'd try to
play the old songs a bit just for fun, and I guess that kinda sparked the old spirit back into us,
and after a few 'rehearsals' we decided, hell, why not try to write something new... And then we
did, and just decided to check out if it would have any potential at all, and we felt it did. I guess
the entire album was written basically in a couple of months, maybe 3.
Blissfulviolet:  Glad you guys are back. Even though you
two stepped away from Limbonic Art you all definitely stayed
involved in the scene.  Could you tell us what you guys were
up to during the inactivity of Limbomic Art?
Morfeus:  Daemon had started his own band called
Sarcoma Inc, which he released two albums with, and he has
the third album almost ready by now, awesome oldshcool
thrash music.  I guess his albums might be a little bit hard to
get hold of, but it is definitely worth checking out… Myself I
have been taken up with Dimension F3H since then, well,
since before we split actually, and we are still going strong.
we just released our second album a couple of months ago,
and pretty much are working our asses off with new material,
gigs, and what not.
Blissfulviolet:  Now back to the new album…how would you
describe ‘Legacy of Evil compared to the last Limbonic Art
album, Ultimate Death Worship?
Morfeus:  I think it is much better!  Way better… the two
albums are completely different, both musically, production
wise and also written in two completely different states of mind.  I mean, as we were writing
Ultimate, I guess both of us were thinking that it wouldn't hold on for too long, and that this
would color the writing process in some way.  So, the two albums can't really be compared,
because there are next to nothing similar in any of the processes involved in music making on
the two albums.  Yet, Legacy is better!!
Blissfulviolet:  So what would you say you enjoyed the most about making Legacy of Evil?
Morfeus:  The writing process.  It's always the writing process that is the most fun… The part
when you can go crazy with ideas and inspiration, try out insane things and see if they work.
You know, when you are stuck at some point, and then you just find the perfect break, or the
next really cool riff to continue the song, goddamn, that's just awesome.  Then comes the
recording, which is a lot more tedious, you need to perfect things, make it sound good, play
everything nice and tight and so on.  Then comes mixing when you are kinda bored with the
songs, probably heard them about 200 times, and still gotta listen to them for at least 200
more…
And then it is a little cool again when you actually get hold of the finished copy of the album,
and then as the interviews are coming, and specially at the end of that process, the album hits
the shelf, and probably won't be taken back for a couple of years.. But at THAT time, we are
starting to think about the next album, so the fun starts over again... it's a circle, once it's
complete, we start another.
Blissfulviolet:  So I take it the flow of creativity and ambition for Limbonic Art is stronger then
ever since the return?
Morfeus:  Well, I know Daemon is writing quite a lot these days. Personally I'm relaxing a little
at the moment. I need to build up a little energy again, cause I have been working constantly in
the studio since early December last year, and I didn't finish working since I finished the LA
cover just a couple of weeks ago, I have been working on 3 albums this spring/summer, and
I'm a little exhausted.
It's fun in the studio, but not for too long at a time, I spent my entire holiday working on LA
stuff, so now I need to get a little distance again before we start kicking ass again…And
autumn is the best time of year to gain inspiration for dark sinister music.
Blissfulviolet:  I know we discussed a while back that Limbonic Art will not tour this time
around; could you tell me the reason for this choice?
Morfeus:  There are several reasons for it actually, Daemon isn't very fond of live playing in
general, that was also one of the reasons why he left Zyklon back in those days, and he also
has several other duties that prevents this even further.  I think that also in general Limbonic
Art works better as a studio band rather than a live act, plus that we both are busy doing other
bands and so on, so I think that it is for the best, at least for now. I shall never say never tho, I
have learnt that much in the past few years.  But a tour, that I seriously doubt, if anything it
would be a one off show.. However I don't see that as very likely either though.
Blissfulviolet:  For those who have never witnessed
Limbonic Art live in the past, could you tell us how the live
experience was for you guys?
Morfeus:  I'd suggest you go to youtube, do a quick search
and have a look.  No, actually a live concert with Limbonic Art
is much like what we do on the rehearsals, except we have
cooler clothes, and in the past we wore makeup too.  Many
people didn't quite cope with the fact that we didn't use
drummers or a bassist and so on live, but that was all what
Limbonic Art was about.  Why should we incorporate a
drummer when we didn't use one… we wanted to present the
band just as it was (is) and that's it. No playing tricks, no
cheating, this is what we are, this is what you get.
Blissfulviolet:  Sounds good to me...by the way Limbonic Art
played one show in the United States a few years ago, what
was your impression of America?
Morfeus:  Hehehehe..  It was... strange.
Blissfulviolet:  Lol I had to ask.
Morfeus:  It was very unusual to us.  I think the things that surprised me the most was the way
people approached you on the streets and just started talking… People don't do that over
here, unless they are nuts or something.
Blissfulviolet:  Yeah we definitely have different customs.  Tell me about your experience
here…
Morfeus:  It was hot, so we wore short sleeved shirts and so on, our tattoos were visible and
people just came over starting to talk about them and such.  That was kinda freaking me out a
little every now and then.  But all were friendly and having a good time.  We ended up eating
chinese food most of the time, cause we got pretty fed with the burgers and stuff, some
extremely fat food.
Blissfulviolet:  I take it you would never move to the US lol.
Morfeus:  No, that's true, I wouldn't.
Blissfulviolet:  What inspired you to become a musician?
Morfeus:  My family I guess…I have grown up in a very big family and almost every one of
them played some form of instrument.  And if they didn't play, then they could sing.  There
were always someone playing the piano at gatherings and so on, violins, flutes, accordions,
you name it.  I actually played the piano a long time before I got the interest of the guitar, and
then through the years I just developed an interest for metal, and it has just grown ever
since… So it was more or less from birth.
Blissfulviolet:  Interesting, I would have never guessed.  Name some of your favorite bands.
Morfeus:  Hmmm, Favorite bands.  Well, you got all the classics of course, bands that will stay
with me like forever, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, these kinds of bands.  Then you
have bands like Emperor, DarkThrone, Enslaved, and so on.  I don't know, it's like fav bands in
each genre or so, I can't really say that there's one or 4 particular bands that I like more than
everything else.  Nile has become a great band that I like a lot, old Cannibal Corpse… Frank
Zappa, I'm so pissed I didn't get to see him live. Andreas Wollenveider, The Prodigy,
Wumpscut, Bjørn Berge.  There is tons of stuff that I like. Tons of stuff in all kinds of genres
and types of music.
Blissfulviolet:  Yeah it's good to be open to all types of music.  Outside of music what are
some of your hobbies?
Morfeus:  Yeah, I think that music is nothing more than a set of notes put together and
organized in a certain way, and depending on outside input, you like this or that string of
notes. And independent of genres, if the music is set up to your preferences, you will like it.
Hmm, hobbies.? Music takes up most of my time of course, but I'm also much into a bit of
photography, not as much as I want to tho, but I'm hoping to do more, web design, bicycling,
build guitars (well, try to at least), and, hmm... I think that's about it, try to catch a few tv
programs when I can, and read the news online while at work…
Blissfulviolet:  I always hear bickering about how black metal should stay underground and
how some bands aren’t authentic enough, how do you feel on this subject?
Morfeus:  I don't care much for that really, actually I don't care so much for the term black
metal either. But then again, I don't feel that I or Limbonic Art for that matter are limited to be in
such a genre, we span over much more than just BM.
I know a lot of bands are being judged for having sold out or whatever, Like Dimmu Borgir for
instance…  I know a few of the guys there, and I don't think I have seen any BM band EVER
who is working so hard for what they are doing.  I'm not a huge fan of them myself, but I deeply
respect what they have accomplished, the dedication they have in what they do, and the work
and effort they put into their music.  And to me, if a couple of thousands more want to buy your
albums, who the fuck cares… Then again, if you really wanted to be underground, why enter a
studio… why record anything at all. And if you ARE going to record something, you should get
out your old cassette player, record something and do some tape trading…  I still got some
Limbonic Art cassettes lying around, trade anyone?? hehehe..
Blissfulviolet:  Haha tape trading, fuck
yeah…Lol I agree with you on your underground
statement and nowadays with illegal downloading
it's tough for bands to make a living. So if you
have the opportunity to make a living off what
you love to do...I say do it by all means.
Morfeus:  Yeah, and this in turn will make you
have more time to make better music.  And
actually perhaps have some time off in the
evening to gather strength… At the moment I'm
working a normal day job, and then I get home,
eat my dinner, and start working on some band
related work, and usually don't stop until
midnight… That's my line: No work after midnight on the weekdays…
Blissfulviolet:  Yeah you don’t want to overwork yourself.  Well I'm down to my last
questions...So where would you like to see Limbonic Art in the near future?
Morfeus:  Selling hundreds of thousands of questions of course…hehe  But to be realistic, I
hope that we still in the future may be able to release albums, that they hopefully sell a little,
and that we can continue to make the music we love to make.  That's the most important thing!
Blissfulviolet:  Any final comments that you'd like to say to Limbonic Art fans out there?
Morfeus:  Get ready, and mark the date. 24th of September is the day you hit the shops!
NOT the torrent pages.
They resurrected from the dead…Limbonic Art-the symphonic black metal
masters have resurrected and risen with their anticipated comeback album,
‘Legacy of Evil.’ I was able to ask Morfeus a few questions via msn instant
messenger and the following is what arose…
