Interview with Blake Harrison
By: The Midwest Viking
So this is my first interview for beyondthedarkhorizon.com and what an intimidating
interview, Pig Destroyer! I am one of the few who absolutely loved "Terrorizer," so
when I got my hands on the new album I was quite curious as to what would assault
my ears.  What commenced was a total annihilation of my ear drums!!! This album is
already a front runner for most top 10 lists at the end of the year.  I spoke with
newest member Blake and this is the unfortunate result. Enjoy!!!
-Viking
Midwest Viking:  So I just listened to the new album 2 times and I thought it was "a return to form" for
you guys....
Blake Harrison;  We don’t really think of anything as "A return to form," people are going to like it and
people are going to not, we just want to write music.
Midwest Viking:  I thought this album was a lot less experimental then the “Terrifyer”…
Blake:  Agreed, and there wasn't really a conscious effort to do so, that's just how it came out.
Midwest Viking:  Was there any set idea or themes going into the writing process? How involved in that
process were you?
Blake:  I was involved, I came in a little late to get a lot of stuff done, for example, I do more live. There
are really no set themes in the beginning, we just start writing and work it out amongst ourselves.
Midwest Viking:  How much input did you have?
Blake:  Some.
Midwest Viking:  JR's lyrics always seem too
real, like a short story.  Is there a reoccurring
theme on "Phantom Limb,” or just spurts from
the mouth of madness?
Blake:  More just random spattering and
droppings from his head, you know whatever
really motivates him at the time.
Midwest Viking:  What inspirations did you
Blake:  I really like the idea of more compositional stuff as far as that goes, I unfortunately didn’t' get too
much of a chance to do a lot, but we're constantly working and developing new ideas etc... Steel Pole
Bathtub, that's all I've got to say.
Midwest Viking:  So you are a permanent full time member? How did you come into the band?
Blake:  Yes, I've been friends with the guys for years; they wanted to add a new element, so I seemed
like the natural choice.
Midwest Viking:  With all the hype surrounding this release and being named "One of the top 25" by
AP now, has this affected the band at all and if so how?
Blake:  Us, we're very flattered, press is press, it's cool, and we just want to play music. There’s a bigger
turnout at the shows, but we really could care less if there were only 10 people there, as long as they
wanted to be there.
Midwest Viking:  Do you see yourselves eventually being lumped in with all these "Scenegrind bands"?
Blake:  Not really.
Midwest Viking:  So what does the future hold for Pig Destroyer and you as an individual?
Blake:  We're going to continue to write and put out music as long as we're feeling it and as long as we
can, as far as me as an individual? I plan on buying more Despise You shirts.  Thanks for your time. It is
always nice to talk with you.
have in contributing the samples and noise elements to the new album?
