The Hollandia beer from the
night before had definitely
caused some damage.  Head
pounding, feeling scattered
and the fest was going to start
in just a few hours.
I arrived during Dagons
performance, The Sacrifice of
the Nazarene Child’s first
scheduled act.  Vocalist Blood
Moon looked insane…gripping
the mic, beating the stand to
the ground. Their sound was
raw, scorch…crude black
The scenery outside the club was
alive. Vivid. Beer drinkers, black
metal heads uniting,
conversations.  Fuck it got me a
beer as was off to check out
Nodens.  My head was still fucking
aching.  I honestly was not in the
mood for live music, but once
that beer eased its way into my
veins, I was back. Rewired.
Energized. Ready for the
unexpected…and with that
Nodens hit the stage.  Awesome
thrash/black death metal from
Houston, TX.  Guitarist/vocalist
Zolrak shred the guitar with
Next up was Obeisance.  Fuck
yeah! Is all I have to
say…Upside down wooden cross
planted right smack down on
stage.  Vocalist Martin Von Fah-
Q screaming into the mic.  His
high pitched vocals on
‘Apokalyptik Visions’ were
insane. (A reminiscent of old 80’
s thrash metal…but brutal)
They also played a new track
off their new 7 inch, soon to be
released and it fucking kills…
fucking metal.  My head was pounding even more with its
intensity.  Though I was only able to witness their last two songs,
they definitely left their mark.
integrity.  Low disintegrating growls followed.  The crowd grew
larger after every song.
More beer! Another beer
another fucking mixed
drink and I was off to the
front of the stage.
Adumus was about to go
on.  I remember last
seeing these guys
perform back in 2005 in
Corpus Christi, TX.  They
caught my attention then
and I was curious and
anxious to see what they
sounded like now.  Some
technical difficulties
arose and their performance was briefly stalled due to a skin
busting from the bass drum.  It was well worth the wait because
they kicked so much ass.  Fucking amazing sound and stage
presence.
As the night started
to unfold the crowd
grew larger.
Incursus took the
stage next. This was
my first time
witnessing this band.
They had the crowd
going.  After
catching most of
their set, I decided
to venture off to
meet with friends
and check out the rest of the scenery.  The venue was great. A
burger joint and lounging area
linked right outside the club
room. Plenty of standing area,
comfortable seating and quite a
number of vendors were on site
with tons of hard to find merch.
After lounging, drinking and
dining…I made my way back into
the club. Teratism had just
walked on stage.  Drenched in
corpse paint with hooded
cloaks…the crowd was going
insane.  Their music spewed a
vile stench of hate in the air
that seemed to captivate the
crowd.
Demonic Christ was scheduled
to go on next. It took a while
for the band to setup but once
they were ready, female
vocalist Satania sporting a 666
shirt greeted the crowd with a
grim ‘Hail Satan’ growl.  I was
amazed to witness such massive
guitar riffs and growls all
coming from a female.  It was
demonically interesting.
The mighty Thrornspawn
immediately took the stage
next.  Their set was fucking
brutal as always. Drummer and
fest founder, Blackthorn thanked all the bands and dedicated a
song in their reference.
The wait for Archgoat was
tormenting, due to the fact that
my only ride home had to leave
soon.  45 minutes later…Archgoat
walked on stage, full of spikes that
could poke you from a foot away
and holding containers of blood
that were to be splattered at the
crowd. Did blood spill? I have no
idea, unfortunately I had to leave
but I was grateful to at least
witness their first two songs.
Fuck. The crowd was energized
and all standing to witness this
sacred assault.
