MidKnight Damaelle: To someone who has never
heard your music, how would you describe it to them?
Interview with Tommy By: MidKnight Damaelle
|
Tommy: SADIST sound is a sort of mix between heavy
music, 70s progressive rock, some jazzy stuff, some
ethnical influences...I know, it seems to be a little bit
massy, but it works! At least, for us.
MidKnight Damaelle: On your latest album, how have
you made it to differ from the ones before?
Tommy: Every album just sounds different from the
previous one 'cause everytime we start the composition
process for some new stuff, the mood in the band is
different! This time we really wanted to push the
acoustical and ethnical influences in our sound, and we
recorded a lot of acoustical instruments. In the past we
usually worked with samples, but actually we are pretty
bored about sinthetical sounds!
MidKnight Damalle: What was your first indication that you had made it as a band and that
you had succeeded in your desires to let yourselves and your music be known?
Tommy: I don't really know... life band is made by great moments as well as very bad ones!
One of the highest point we reached in the past can be considered playing at Wacken Open
Air in 1998, 'cause actually we were the first Italian band, along with Lacuna Coil, playing there.
MidKnight Damalle: As a band, of course you see each other very often. How do you deal
with and avoid conflicts within the group?
Tommy: When we are touring we spend a lot of time together, but when we are at home, we
don't meet each other so often... To avoid scratches and personal conflicts is not so easy, and
sometimes you simply cannot avoid it...but, otherwise, being in a band is more or less like
being married and having babies, so, that's life!
MidKnight Damaelle: What does the future have in store for Sadist?
Tommy: Who knows? Actually we are planning the Italian Clubs tour, after which we should
join the European one! For the next future, we'd like to start working on a DVD, but since we'd
like to do something cool, we'll spend much of the 2008 planning it!
Midknight Damaelle: What is your number one goal as a band?
Tommy: Playing everywhere! There are so many places where we haven't been, if it would be
possible we'd been always in tour.
Midknight Damaelle: Where would you say most of
your lyrics come from, such as past experiences, etc.?
Tommy: We generally love to talk about weird stuff, but
we don't like fantasy or satanical topics...most of our
lyrics are about human beings and human feelings!
MidKnight Damaelle: Tell us a crazy experience
you've had while on stage.
Tommy: We try to as much professional as possible, so
while on stage we are fully concentrated on the show.
Soon after the show, we became party animals, but
during the show we just care about the music.
MidKnight Damaelle: Please relay a message to your
fans:
Tommy: I know in the past we haven't been always
100% inspired, and not all of our albums are
masterpieces! But we are sure this time we have made a
great album, and we've been playing for a long time to
prove it!
MidKnight Damaelle: I like asking a silly question at the end of interviews, here's yours: If
you had to spend a day in the life of another band, what would that band be and why?
Tommy: Well, there are so many great bands around, but for sure the band I'd pay to play
with is SLAYER, since I grew up listening to albums like "Reign In Blood" and "South Of
Heaven".
