Interview with Anton and Alta BY: Josteinn

Josteinn: It has only been a short period of time
since I had the pleasure of meeting you Anton,
and even shorter time hearing your new and
original sounding approach to modern Black
Metal. Creative but still Traditional with an
Industrial sound, I'm listening to the music right
now, and I must ask, was the artwork on
Revelations just a coincidence, because I am
picturing Nuns being raped and all other forms of
blasphemous atrocities taking its place upon
weak followers of Christianity?
Anton: It’s no coincidence. I want the artwork
surrounding the album to reflect on the content of
the album. The listener should have a visual
Josteinn: Now to start this interview off with the typical question, how long has Sanguinarius
existed and has it always just been you and Alta?
Anton: I started composing the music late 2003. I tried to create a full line-up numerously,
being joined by either friends or session musicians but they never seemed to get my vision. I
carried on by myself, composing and recording all the instruments. After reading Alta’s poetry I
encouraged her to try writing some lyrics, which turned out to be exactly what I was looking for.
By 2006 she officially joined Sanguinarius.
Josteinn: What influences do you have to give credit to your creation of despondency?
Alta: In general, Humanity – the source of the entire world’s sin. There are the psychotic
specimens, serial killers, cannibals, pedophiles, torturers, rapists, inbreeders, and then there’s
Christians, who don’t allow anyone freedom of thought or expression. They try to brainwash
people with their ridiculous beliefs, forcing their religion down people’s throats. Their ignorance
really annoy us and make us sick.
Josteinn: Is there any interest in using session musicians to play live shows if you have not
already?
Alta: When the album is released we will start looking for session musicians again. We’ve
made attempts to work with session guitarists before and had an opportunity to work with two
brilliant guitarists, but due to their drug habits they were not focused enough and we couldn’t
get their full potential from them. The fact that they also had their own band on the side made
things more complicating.
Anton: We live in one of the country’s smaller cities, far away from the big ones where most of
the talent is. There are a few good musicians around here, but they are not really familiar with
the Black Metal genre and finding a drummer is probably going to be our biggest problem.
connection to the music and lyrics in order to add to the atmosphere of the album.
Josteinn: Are you satisfied with the
completion of the album?
Anton: So far it’s been really hard to create
the album, considering that I have to record
all the instruments myself and being a
perfectionist there’s always something that I
want to change. Time is also a big problem
since we both have to work full time day jobs
in order to survive. But we are in the process
of finalizing the recordings. So far we’re very
pleased with the result and we’re getting great
feedback from fans. People say that we have
a unique sound – that’s good to hear. We’ve
been asked by foreign fans when we’ll be able to play in their countries, if only they knew how
poor we are!
Josteinn: What's the Black Metal scene like in South Africa?
Alta: What Black Metal scene!?! He-he-he, but seriously, there are very few Black Metal
bands around and very little local support. No airplay or publicity. Apparently we’re too explicit
(now where did they get THAT idea?). Our biggest fanbase is in Europe and America at this
stage. There also seems to be a bit of a misconception of what Black Metal is around here,
you say the word “Metal” and everyone goes “I like Metallica too!” (ugh).
Anton: We’ll probably never get local airplay or publicity since African and gospel music gets
all the promotion around here. We’re already being played on a variety of radio stations in
America and Canada and we’re negotiating airplay in Sweden and the UK. Also we’re the
featured band in a Swedish limited edition occult magazine, which sold out on the first day of
publication, so we’re really not bothered with local publicity.
Josteinn: Explain your Satanic Ideology behind your music? Do you meditate with ritual
practice before you gather ideas with music formation?
Alta: We don’t need meditation, Evil is always there, in our minds, our hearts and souls just
waiting to be released. And the more we’re around humanity and Christians the more our
hatred grows, constantly feeding the Evil.
Anton: We humans have brains. Some have very sick brains, but still we have them in order
to think for ourselves and make our own decisions. Why follow blindly as one of the flock when
you can be the goat leading the sheep to their slaughter?
Josteinn: What is Revelations all about? What is Sanguinarius correlation with the lyrical
meanings behind it's music?
Anton: The album starts off with the title track
“Revelations” with the telling of the coming of the
plagues, the Antichrist and the final war and serves is in
introduction also as to what to expect in the album (not
musically but lyric related) just like the gospel predicts
what to expect from the future. We are then taken to the
time of the Spanish Inquisition in “Tortured Souls”. This
song reflects the evil of the church and christianity in
early times. I used a lot of sound effects in this one to
build the atmosphere. The listener should feel as if they
themselves are in the torture chambers. “God’s
Blasphemers” is about Christians in modern times and
about how blind and mindless they still are.
‘Creationists’ and ‘Evangelists’ for example. It’s bout
hypocrisy and how mankind is being force-fed with
Christianity. Then the exploration of the psychotic starts
in “Pedophile Playground” with the sick perverted
thoughts and actions of a Church going citizen, who
kidnaps, rapes and murders children. A romantic serial

killer/rapist/cannibal story is told in “Beloved Deceased”. A man who falls deeply in love with
most beautiful kind women, talks them, then develops an insatiable hunger for flesh to make
‘her’ one with him. “Incest” - A brother and sister from a white trash household experiment and
molest each other and in their unholy actions create the Antichrist that was foretold in
Revelations. “Bloodstained One” - Starts with the birth of the Antichrist and shows his rise to
power and the gathering of his army all by use of his words, much as Hitler had power over
people in the way he carried himself. Then the album comes full circle as the “Final War” hits
just as it was prophesized. Evil gains supremacy, we are free and Christianity is wiped out.
Josteinn: Ever done anything illegal that influenced you in writing one of your songs or the
lyrics? Just say no and then tell me the truth outside this interview!!!
Alta: Let’s just say that Anton will NEVER get his gun back and the axe is still hidden where he
can’t get to it...And so is his next-door neighbor...
Anton: He fled. I actually thank him for all the rage and violence I was exposed to from a
young age. No one will ever challenge me again and get away with it. I fear nothing or no one.
Vengeance, Wrath, Strength and Pride will always inspire.
Alta: As for myself, I don’t consider advertising local churches for sale in real-estate papers
illegal hee-hee-hee.
Josteinn: What is your favorite instrument to use when writing music?
Anton: The guitar is definitely my favorite instrument, for playing and composing. It’s the lead
instrument in creating Black Metal and nothing promotes darkness like distorted guitars!
Josteinn: What do you hate most about the Modern Black Metal scene?
Anton: As soon as a Black Metal band makes it big these days, they’re being called sell-outs,
like Dimmu Borgir, for example. Some old school Black Metal fans expect us to stay
underground instead of growing and spreading our message through-out the world. It’s easily
understood that they don’t want the music commercialized, but there’s a greater purpose to the
music than freaking out parents, teachers and churches. We should not be oppressed by
Christian religion and censorship – let them go underground and let Black Metal dominate the
music industry. We have a message to spread and will do so by any means necessary.
Josteinn: Is there anyone you dedicate Revelations to?
Any bands out there or friends of old?
Anton: Firstly, we dedicate the album to our fans, the
people who really understand the music and can identify
with it. Their loyalty and support never cease to amaze us.
Alta: But we also dedicate Revelations to each and every
person who doubted us and tried to convince us that we
would never make it. To each and every one of those
ignorant persons who go around saying that Sanguinarius is
not a real band because it consists of only two members
and those who complain that we never play local “gigs”,
when the audiences consist of twenty to fifty drunken
teenagers in Power Metal t-shirts and don’t understand our
music anyway.
Josteinn: In closing, is there anything you would like to say
Anton: Thank you for your support and constant feedback, we would not have made it this far
without you. Sanguinarius has changed our lives dramatically, for the better, and we have the
fans to thank for that.
Alta: The world needs more supportive, understanding, intelligent and creative people like the
fans we have. I’ve met a few of them and speak to some when I’m able to go online and each
and every one of them are special in their own way. Keep it Evil – Dark Hailz!!
for the fans and posers out there?
A promising creation of "Psychotic Black Metal". A melody of eerie atmosphere and chaos. Sanguinarius's music can most certainly be considered a chilling new epic to this vast growing genre, Still obtaining the old ways of black metal music, yet vomiting out a new concept of pure and utter chaos. I was very entertained with my unique replies to more compelling questions than what you typically read in interviews. I must certainly give my infernal hailz to this Psychotic music, as well as the freaks of nature behind the music. Ave.
