Blissfulviolet: Greetings Scarlet thanks for doing the interview so how are you and what have you been up to lately?
Sonya Scarlet: Hello guys, I’m fine but really busy at the moment, we’re in studio recording our last album so everything is mad these days…we’re doing hard work and we’re really satisfied about the result we’re having.
Blissfulviolet: Can you give us any details on the next release, Anima Noir?
Sonya Scarlet: Anima Noir is the next step of TDV sound… It follows the new energy of Desire of Damnation, melodic and powerful, aggressive at the same time with something more. The release is planned for the next year, maybe March but everything is not confirmed yet, we’ll let you know more about it.
Blissfulviolet: What inspires you as a vocalist and how does it feel like being the front woman of a band?
Sonya Scarlet: My own life always inspire my lyrics, I am what I feel, I cannot be something else…Pain, poetry, art…everything that is connected with me and my experiences and I show my emotions on stage every time. I love being the front woman of my band and everyday that I’ m on stage I can feel a strong energy all around me and inside me. I believe in what we do and I need to show our music, our art and word to our fans.
Blissfulviolet: Describe for us what goes on at a live Theatres Des Vampires show?
Sonya Scarlet: We never know what’s going to happen. We always give our best and we like to have a theatrical part in our show...music, blood and theatre are part of our shows and I like to let me drive by our music during our performance, I don’t like to plan anything…
Blissfulviolet: I love the energy, outfits, and stage presence that you give to your fans. Just curious… do you have your own stylist or pick out your own stage wear?
Sonya Scarlet: I am also a fashion designer and I like to play with my clothes, I always decide what I’m going to wear cause I need to feel good on stage, clothes are our second skin, they must reflect our attitude and personality.
Blissfulviolet: I’ve read that you have previously scarred yourself with razorblades while performing, allowing the audience to drink of your blood. How did the crowd react to this?
Sonya Scarlet: It’s not just for show and it’s not something that I do every time. As I said before, I really don’t know what I’m going to do on stage, it’s me, it’s my art and my blood that I give to my fans, I cannot give them more than this, I’m giving them my life cause this band is my life and we’re here because of people that love our band. I really respect this thing, I really believe in the power of blood, I'm not forcing anyone to drink it, it’s a free choice, it’s my choice first of all…and I really don’t care about people that condemned me for that
Blissfulviolet: Does the band ever plan on touring in the United States?
Sonya Scarlet: Yes, we really would like to come there for a long tour. We’re planning it so let’s see what’s going on the next year!
Blissfulviolet: What does Vampirism mean to you and are any of these beliefs reflected in your personal life style, if so how?
Sonya Scarlet: Vampirism is the most seductive metaphor about the research of the eternal life. The blood has got a great power, it’s our life we cannot live without it but we can live for it… All the altars of the ancient rites are covered by blood, I’m not saying that it is good or not but blood is really a strong vehicle to give and take energy back and more… In the old novels from the east Europe lands the vampires were cold creatures without any kind of charm, just monsters. After the novel written by Polidori, The Vampire, they started to become a sort of dandies, romantic, charming, erotic and seductive characters with the thirst of blood. I really love both and all my life is connected with these things of course, we’re Theatres des Vampires!
Blissfulviolet: Sometimes fans or the media often have misconceptions of bands. What do you feel is Theatres Des Vampires biggest misconception?
Sonya Scarlet: I really don’t care about it…people that love us know everything about our world. We don’t have to persuade nobody, we’re proud to be here today and we just want to continue to give our emotions to our fans in the best way.
Blissfulviolet: If you weren’t Sonya Scarlet of Theatres des Vampires, what do you think you would be doing today?
Sonya Scarlet: Sonya Scarlet is not a fake character; I always will be what I am now.
Blissfulviolet: Outside of the music world, what are some things that you enjoy doing with your time?
Sonya Scarlet: I love art, literature, Harley Davidson, tattoos. I love my life and all the people that are close to me.
Blissfulviolet: What should we be on the lookout for in 2008?
Sonya Scarlet: The release of Anima Noir and Tours …we want to play everywhere!
Blissfulviolet: Any final comments you wish to tell our readers?
Sonya Scarlet: Thanks to Beyond the Dark Horizon for your support and thanks to your readers for the attention, we’re here because of you. We hope to be in the USA soon, wait for us! Blood is life Sonya Scarlet TDV
